RIDE FOR DIME: Photos From This Year's Event Posted Online

September 10, 2007

The third annual Ride For Dime remembrance ride and concert was held August 19 in the legendary guitarist's hometown of Arlington, Texas.

The motorcycle ride under police escort began in Dallas at Strokers Dallas and ended 30 miles later at Cowboys Dance Hall in Arlington. An estimated 200 motorcycles participated in this year's remembrance ride parade which rode past the cemetery gates and tossed Texas roses in Darrell Abbott's memory.

The Arlington Police Department had all the intersections on the route blocked from traffic, making the trek through the city much easier.

Once the motorcycles arrived at the venue, the concert portion of the event began. Bands performing this year were MOD EFFECT, LOWSIDE (featuring former members of LILLIAN AXE),Nikki McKibbin of "American Idol" fame, BLACK TOOTH (who made their U.S. debut at Ride For Dime all the way from Turkey),TEXAS HIPPIE COALITION from Denison, Texas, and headliner PUMPJACK from Midland, Texas, which is said to have been Dime's "favorite band." Performing two acoustic sets was WHISKEY DICK. Special guests at Ride For Dime were Dime's longtime girlfriend Rita Haney, Officer James Niggemeyer from the Columbus, Ohio Police Department, Susan Bray, mother of Nathan Bray (who was also killed at the Alrosa Villa),and many of Dimebag's closest friends from around the country.

Ride For Dime Texas and Ride For Dime Philadelphia together raised $10,000 for Little Kids Rock, a charity organization who donates musical instruments and music teachers to underprivileged kids in public schools.
